Follow these brief instructions to score your first text.
The SCORE READABILITY screen is the default screen. When you launch or refresh the app, you will see this screen first.
STEP 1: POPULATE TEXT AREA
To populate the text area with your text, you can:
- Import A File. Click the button and you can import a file. The app supports .txt, .docx, .rtf, .pdf, and .html files.
- Load Sample Text. Double-click the button if you want to import one of our sample texts to score. We provide over 30 sample texts.
- Paste From Clipboard. Copy text from any app or program to the clipboard and paste into the text area.
STEP 2: CHOOSE FORMULAS
You do not need to know about readability formulas or how they work to score your text. Simply checkmark Average Reading Level Consensus Calc. It will auto-select 8 popular formulas used to score all types of text.
STEP 3: Score
Next, click Calculate Text Readability to score your text.
STEP 4: Results
After the app scores your text, the screen will scroll down to the results. The Average Reading Level Consensus will average out all the scores and tell you who can read your text:
For example:
Score: 8.54 [ = grade level ]
U.S. Grade Level: 9th Grade
Reading Level: Slightly Difficult
Age Range: 14-15
This means readers with a 9th grade and above education or a 9th grade reading proficiency can read and understand your text. You can also click on the READ MORE button to get more information about your readers.
Congratulations! You just scored your first text!
